| John A. Cage, Deaf since birth,is currently an adjunct instructor in the San Antonio College Department of
American Sign Language and Interpreter Training. Also, is the Deafness Resource Specialist at CSD of Texas-San Antonio as Project funded by Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative (DARS)-Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS), in the San Antonio area, since July, 2000. Some of John’s roles and responsibilities are to work with the state and local governments, organizations, and private entities. Ensuring that services are accessible and readily available to people who are Deaf and/or have a Hearing Loss. In addition, he assists consumers by sharing information about services available to them and provides training, information, referrals, and advocacy, as needed. John has a Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C. He was the first Deaf individual to be certified in Therapeutic Recreation from Gallaudet. John has also worked in a rehabilitation hospital for nine years. While employed at the hospital, he developed his expertise and knowledge in developing therapeutic activities for people with various disabilities.
