"Deaf and hearing people come together."
Rosie has been the Department Secretary since the
inception of the American Sign Language and Interpreter Training Program in 1994. Prior to becoming
the Department Secretary, Rosie was a staff member in the office of the Dean of Occupational and Technical
Education at San Antonio College. She is a native San Antonian, a graduate of South San High School,
and holds a degree in Business Management. Rosie's clerical and managerial skills are critical to the
day to day operations of the department. She is responsible for organizing and maintaining countless
numbers of files, messages, and faculty/staff correspondences. She oversees work study participants and
works hand in hand with the Department Chairperson on a wide range of issues that impact the program on a daily
basis. The Department would not be where it is today without the hard work, dedication, and loyalty of our
secretary. When Rosie first came to the Department, she knew nothing about American Sign Language, Deaf Culture,
or Deaf people. You should see her now! She has since learned a GREAT deal about Deaf people, their
culture, and their language. Woe to anyone who tries to interpret for her! Rosie has been married for
twelve years, has three children, three grandchildren, and all of us here in the Program!
