Deaf Support Specialist Internship

The capstone course for the Deaf Support Specialist option is a two hundred and forty (240) hour practicum. This course should be taken in the last semester of the student degree plan. San Antonio College Interpreting Training Program has articulation agreements with many local agencies. During the Advanced Techniques for Deaf Support Specialist / Service Provides / class students will have an opportunity to discuss with faculty their specific areas of interest. The final placement decision rests with the program faculty and the accepting agency. Most internship opportunities happen during daytime working hours (Monday through Friday 8-5). Students must complete the 240 hours in the semester they are registered to take the class. If you are an evening student, chances are that you will need to make other working arrangements the semester you are enrolled in the Internship class.

An internship is a pre-professional work experience that provides students and those seeking to change careers with the opportunity to gain experience in a particular career field. It is a los a work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. A learning plan is developed by the college and employer. For students, internships also supplement academic classes and, in some cases, earn college credit. An internship is a way to test the waters in a variety of career fields, to gain "real-life" experience, and a way to decide on - or opt out - of a certain vocation.

You work. You learn. You grow. It is called an internship. If you want the opportunity to gain experience for your professional future, here Deaf Support Specialist is.
