Placement Exam
Students who have learned sign language prior to enrolling in the program and feel that their skills are such that they would not benefit from taking ASL I and/ or ASL II may take an in-house Placement Exam. SAC’s ASL courses include over 60 hours of instruction, homework, videotapes, lab hours and outside events. If your class was less intensive or it has been more than a year since you’ve taken the class, consider registering for ASL I.
The placement exam is free of charge and available to take at any time during the semester. Please call or email the Department Office (210)-486-1106 – rlucio@alamo.edu to schedule a time and allow approximately one hour. The exam entails viewing a videotape and responding to written questions based on the learning outcomes taught in Signing Naturally I and II. Students who pass this exam will need to complete 3 to 6 additional credit hours in order to meet the credit requirements for the Associate of Applied Science Degree.
Former Student Admissions
Students who have previously attended one or more of the Alamo Community Colleges and have not enrolled within the past twelve (12) months or any other college or university must satisfy all applicable admissions requirements prior to registration, complete the ApplyTexas Application and submit an official transcript from the most recent college or university attended since being enrolled with the Alamo Community Colleges. Students with dismissals more than ten (10) years old will enter in Good Academic Standing. Returning students whose last status was academic dismissal must petition for readmission as outlined in the Academic Standing and Probation.
If students return to the Alamo Community Colleges after a five (5) year absence, they may be required to re-submit transcripts for admission and/or graduation. Student who have been academically dismissed from a former institution should refer to the Academic Standing and Probation. ( San Antonio College Bulletin 2008-2009 p.62)
