San Antonio College is fortunate to have a dedicated Resource Lab that is open to ASL/Interpreting
Students, Deaf Students and Community Interpreters. The Lab is staffed by two directors who are there
to assist students and interpreters. It is a great place to view ASL videos, chat with other students
and receive tutoring or answers to questions about ASL, Deaf people, Deaf culture, etc. The lab is an "ASL Zone" and we ask that you turn your voices off and please use sign language while you are in the lab.
The primary focus of the lab is to assist San Antonio College students but members of the Deaf community as
well as Interpreters are always welcome.
The library is extensive and you will find many of the current books, videos, DVD's related to the field of
ASL and Interpreting. Unfortunately, resources may not be checked out. In order for students to improve both
their receptive and expressive sign skills, lab work is incorporated into many of the classes. The additional
lab hours help ensure that students have sufficient opportunities to work individually, with another student,
or in small groups to further develop their skills and knowledge.
We now have a digital server and are in the process of converting all of our VHS tapes and DVD's to digital recordings.
The TV/VCRS that have been in the lab since the beginning will be replaced by computers that will allow you to view the
videos you need to watch for class or other videos from the lab. Renovations to the department will begin in 2009 and
our lab will double in size. We can't wait!
Videotaping room
There is a private video taping room that students may use to record class assignments, projects and tests.
Sessions are limited to 30 minutes and there is a sign in sheet posted in the lab each day. Students must
provide their own recording source. Video tapes, CD-Rs DVDs may be available in the lab for purchase.
Community interpreters may use this facility with the understanding the SAC students have first priority.
Tutoring
Tutoring is available for Deaf and ASL students in the lab. To better serve you, please schedule an
appointment with the lab directors.
Sign -In
Students and interpreters, upon entering the lab please log on to Time Keeper. This computer program allows
us to track the number of students/interpreters using the lab
