Credit by Examination

San Antonio College recognizes that students, independent of the college environment, may have attained college-level proficiency in specific course areas. Students are, therefore, provided an opportunity to obtain college credit in these courses by examination.

I. GENERAL REGULATIONS

  1. The maximum credit allowed through any combination of exams is 32 semester hours. Credit allowances may vary with specific departments and individual exams.
  2. A Grade of CR is awarded. Minimum score requirements are listed in Section VII.
  3. Credit (CR) hours earned by examination will not be included in student’s GPA computation; however, the semester hours are counted for graduation.
  4. Credit by examination is awarded and posted on a student’s transcript only after the student has earned six college-level semester hours at San Antonio College.
  5. Only credit by examination grades of C or higher or CR designations are recorded on a student’s transcript.
  6. Credit by examination may not be earned for any course a student has already completed in the classroom.
  7. A student enrolled in a course for which credit by examination is sought must: 1. Withdraw from the course by the census date.
  8. A student who enrolled but did not complete a course in a previous semester/session is eligible for credit by exam in the non-completed course, provided at least six months have elapsed since the specific semester ended.
  9. A student who receives credit by exam may choose to not have it posted on his/her transcript and instead take its respective class for credit.
  10. Credit by exam awarded by San Antonio College applies to its program of study; such credit may transfer to other institutions according to the policies of the receiving institution. A student who plans to transfer should consult the transfer institution regarding its policies and acceptance of evaluated credit.
