When and where are classes held and when do they start?
Classes are held on the campus of San Antonio College located at 1300 San Pedro Avenue , San Antonio , TX . Classes are held 2 nights per week and an occasional Saturday. Classes last 3 hours long and generally run from August through December and January through May. The Internship courses begin in July.


What certifications are offered?
Individuals applying for admission can choose from the following certifications:
Math 4-8th Grade
Math 8-12th Grade
Math/Science 4-8th Grade
Science 4-8th Grade
Science 8-12th Grade
Generalist EC-6th Grade
Bilingual Generalist EC-6th Grade

What test can I take to qualify for admission?
Applicants can take the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) or the Accuplacer and submit official scores to San Antonio College .

How much will it cost?
The costs for certification through this program are among the lowest in the region. Below is a list of the cost associated with achieving teacher certification.

Who are the program instructors?
Classes are taught by a faculty of certified and experienced educators in their academic fields. They include teachers, Instructional Specialists, and school principals.

What is an internship and when do I become an intern?
Internship is a year long teaching practicum for students who become highly qualified to be in the classroom. An intern is employed as the teacher-of-record for one academic year under a probationary certificate in a local Texas Education Agency (TEA) accredited school at the appropriate level and subject in which he or she is seeking certification.

To qualify for a middle or high school internship students must first demonstrate subject-matter competency by passing the TExES content exam or have completed an academic major in the subject he or she will be teaching. Applicants seeking Generalist EC-4 certification can only demonstrate subject-matter competency by passing the Generalist EC-4 TExES exam.

Do I get paid during the internship?
Yes. Interns are hired as the teacher-of-record and paid as first year teachers by the employing school district. First year teacher salaries vary from school district to school district. Contact individual school districts for more information on starting salaries.

What if I received a degree from a foreign country?
All foreign transcripts must be submitted with an official (unopened) translation and course-by-course evaluation from an approved credential evaluation service. Applicants may contact Foreign Credential Service of America at (512) 459-8428 or visit www.fcsa.biz . Official scores from Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) are also required.
