Program Completion Requirements
You can begin teaching in the classroom within 1 semester. Individuals with degrees in Math or Science may receive initial certification and begin teaching upon admission and enrollment into the program. Otherwise, students must pass their TExES content exam to be eligible for employment. Full certification requirements can be completed within 2 years.

To be recommended for full Teacher certification each student must comply with program policies and complete the following requirements:

Pedagogy and Professional Responsibility (PPR) course

Internship course with 1-year Internship as a classroom teacher in a local accredited school

Pass the TExES Content and TExES PPR exams

Classes begin in August and January and meet two evenings per week and an occasional Saturday.

Content-specific course
This course begins preparing students to become an effective educator through the use of developmentally appropriate teaching strategies. This course is designed to teach classroom methods aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and educator standards. This content-focused course includes training in lesson planning, assessments and classroom management.

Pedagogy and Professional Responsibility
Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities prepares the emerging teacher to understand the basic educational and physiological theories. This course is designed to prepare students with knowledge of pedagogy and professional responsibilities using best practice models of teaching. During this course, students also complete 20 hours of classroom observations.

Internship
This course is provides ongoing support for the 1st year teacher in the classroom. Students become eligible to seek employment as the teacher-of-record in a locally accredited school after passing the TExES content exam. Extensive mentor support is offered through the Texas Beginning Educator Support System (TxBESS) to assist the new teacher with the challenges throughout the school year. The internship fee may be payroll deducted through the employing school district.
