strengthening reading

Course description

Reading is one of the most important foundations for learning, enjoyment, and enrichment. This class focuses on building the TAKS reading comprehension skills of: identifying the unstated main idea, producing summaries, using context to support word meaning, analyzing characters, recognizing story problems or plot, sequencing events, drawing inferences, and distinguishing fact from opinion.

Students will read three delightful chapter books, be given daily TAKS formatted quizzes over these chapters, and use the “Reading Process” to break down reading passages and support comprehension. Weekly benchmarks will be given to identify student strengths and weaknesses. Reading games and rewards will motivate reluctant learners. Come and enjoy the fun of reading!

Courses are offered for students at each level - Elementary and Middle School.
