Mathematics (Elementary)
This course is designed to help students in Elementary School. Topics include number expressions, problem solving, graphs, charts, geometry, fractions, decimals, ratios and percentages as a way of preparing for the next grade level.

Writing (Elementary)
The skills taught will come from the third, fourth, and fifth grade TEKS. The writing class is designed to instruct students to compose creative writing that ranges from journaling to essays. Some exercises are focused on shorter compositions while others are edited and revised to produce complete essays.
Instruction also will address grammar, punctuation, and capitalization. These lessons will be incorporated within the written pieces to avoid concepts only taught in isolation.
A variety of strategies are used to develop students’ abilities. A visit to the campus newspaper is also utilized, scheduling permitting. This visit allows the students to see how the writing is produced for the articles, as well as learn of a possible career available through writing.

Strengthening Reading (Elementary)
Reading is one of the most important foundations for learning, enjoyment, and enrichment. This class focuses on building the TAKS reading comprehension skills of: identifying the unstated main idea, producing summaries, using context to support word meaning, analyzing characters, recognizing story problems or plot, sequencing events, drawing inferences, and distinguishing fact from opinion.
Students will read three delightful chapter books, be given daily TAKS formatted quizzes over these chapters, and use the “Reading Process” to break down reading passages and support comprehension. Weekly benchmarks will be given to identify student strengths and weaknesses. Reading games and rewards will motivate reluctant learners. Come and enjoy the fun of reading!

Drawing & Painting (Elementary)
For grades 3-5. This course is designed to teach the student basic drawing and painting techniques while exploring various types of media. The student will learn to develop and refine both observation skills as well as explore subjective personal approaches.

Science (Elementary)
For grades 3-5. Through hands-on and minds-on investigations students will apply the scientific method in many exciting ways. Problem solving activities will challenge both sides of the brain. Major disciplines of science will be investigated such as biological kingdoms, space challenges, and the principles of density and buoyancy.

Integrated Reading & Writing (Elementary)
Dive into the Reading and Writing TEKS at SAC this summer. We will use Swimming with Sharks by Twig C. George to improve reading skills, fluency and comprehension. Our writing project will take you through the murky waters of sharks to produce clearly outstanding narratives that reflect solid research and fine tuned writing skills.

Computers (Elementary)
Join us in the fun of learning about dinosaurs, space, and the rainforest! You will research and explore these areas via the Internet and compile your information into a slideshow. You will learn to use different computer programs and technology tools as you set out on a cyber-adventure sure keep your interest! You will learn to use the Internet, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint! Each week will focus on one of the three topics: dinosaurs, space and the rainforest.

Mathematics (Middle School)
This course is designed to help students prepare to successfully pass Middle School TEKS testing. Instructional content covers domains that are divided into sets of competencies. A sampling of possible competency topics: real and complex number systems structure, operations, algorithms, and representation; number theory concepts and principles using numbers to model and solve varied problems; geometries; exponential and logarithmic functions; calculus functions; theory of sampling and statistical inference; and mathematical reasoning and problem solving.
