Law Enforcement Training AcademyBasic Peace Officer / bpo San Antonio College's Law Enforcement Training Academy has entered its 30th year of operation with guidance from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education. Since it's beginning, the Academy has provided certification training, which currently consists of 640 hours, to approximately 1,200 officers and specialized in-service training to over 1,870 officers annually. The Academy is also equipped with modern equipment for handgun and driver training. Its Dula-Tron System enables peace officers to practice handgun usage in a variety of stress situations with the safety of a professional firing range. Its Profiler Driving Simulator also enables peace officers to practice driving using a variety of stress situations. BPO Phase I is offered quarterly along with Phases II, III, & IV. Private Security Training The Academy is approved by the Board of Private Security to deliver Private Security Guard Training. As a specialized part of the Law Enforcement Academy, the Intoxilyzer program provides instruction to certify police officers on the operation of technical equipment. The Intoxilyzer is an alcohol-breath testing devise used to help determine the offense of driving while intoxicated. The Law Enforcement Academy is operating in the Law Enforcement Training Center on the campus of San Antonio College. Dedicated space for this type of training consists of one laboratory and seven classrooms. Timeline for Enrollment to the Basic Peace Officer Course Step One: Must complete registration process through San Antonio College [click here]. Take Reading Accuplacer Exam at San Antonio College (COST $5.00). Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Step Two: Bring a copy of the Reading Accuplacer test score for evaluation to the San Antonio College Law Enforcement Training Center located at 1014 San Pedro Avenue, San Antonio, Texas 78212. Step Three: Download, fill out, and follow directions on the Fast Pass Fingerprint Form Step Four: Must bring ALL of the following completed documents to the Law Enforcement Training Academy in order to process registration applications: Step Five: We will call you, when fingerprint results are approved and set up an Orientation Meeting, a Reading Comprehension Test, Physical Exam, and Drug Screen ($69.00) Step Six: Upon successful completion of Reading, Physical and Drug Exams, you will be scheduled for a Psychological Exam ($100.00) Step Seven: Upon successful completion of Psychological exam you will be allowed to enroll in the Academy Prerequisites: What’s it take to qualify to get into the program? Basically, you will need a High School Diploma or GED. You need a full criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship.
