GIS Degrees and Certificate Program

San Antonio College offers two associates degrees and one certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  Each of these academic programs is designed to serve specific career goals.  The program you choose most likely depends on your academic background, courses completed, and your long range goals.

The Associates in Arts (A.A.) degree is most accessible to students who have already completed a variety of Core Curriculum courses at the college level, or who plan to do so in the near future.  These core courses, such as English, speech, government, history, etc., are common to most Associates and Bachelors degrees at San Antonio College and elsewhere.  In addition to these core courses the students are required to complete 12 hours of GIS, and either GEOG 1301 (Physical Geography) or GEOG 2389 (Internship).  Learn more.

The Associates in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree is designed for individuals who prefer focusing their academic efforts on technical courses instead of Core Curriculum courses.  They are required to take a smaller number of core courses, and instead enroll in a broad range of technical courses within GIS and drafting programs. Learn more.

The Level I Certificate is designed for individuals who are not interested in a college degree, but who wish to gain academic documentation of their GIS skills and training.  They are required to complete fewer courses than what is required by the degrees, and al of these courses are focused in GIS and drafting. Learn more.
