Historical Geology Laboratory
(1 credit)
Prerequisite:  None.
Laboratory work in this course includes the study of rocks, fossils, geographic maps, geologic maps, and other aspects of earth history.

GEOL 1301
Earth Sciences
(3 credits)
Prerequisite: None.
This course is a survey of the earth sciences.  Topics include the nature of the earth as revealed by geology, astronomy, meteorology, oceanography, and other related physical sciences.  Some laboratory experience is included.

Historical Geology 
(3 credits)
Prerequisite:  GEOL 1301, 1305, 1345, OR 1403.
This course focuses on the origin and evolution of the earth through geologic time, emphasizing organic evolution and plate tectonics.

Environmental Geology
(3 credits)
Prerequisite:  None.
This course covers geologic processes and their importance in natural resource evaluation, engineering, law, business and urban planning.  The course consists of three lecture hours per week, and includes some laboratory experience.

Introduction to Oceanography
(3 credits)
Prerequisite:  None.
This course is an introduction to the basic biological, chemical, geological, hydrological, and physical features and processes of the oceans, including origin, evolution, uses and resources.  Some laboratory experience is included.

Physical Geology
(4 credits)
Prerequisite:  None.
This course is an introduction to the nature and properties of rocks and minerals; processes by which they are formed, altered and transported; nature and development of the landscape.  Laboratory work includes the study of minerals, rocks, topographic and geologic maps.
