Fables See translation by S. A. Handford, Penguin. Many editions for all ages. There are several adaptations of the Aesopian fables, notably by Phaedrus ( 1st Century A.D. ), who wrote fables in Latin verse, and Jean de la Fontaine ( 1621 - 1695 ), whose French verse fables were translated into English verse by Marianne Moore ( 1887 - 1972 ).
