The Hierarchy of the Angels

This picture is a detail from the title page of Thomas Heywood's Hierarchy of the Blessed Angels. The date on the page is 1635. The New Testament basis for the notion of the hierarchy is in three Pauline passages: Romans 8:38, Ephesians 1:21, and Colossians 1:16.
