The Collected Works of Goethe, in twelve volumes, published by Princeton, 1993-1995, surely deserves to be called one of the publishing events of the 1990's. It presents a sampling of Goethe's work and offers new translations of those works which are most often read, while showing Goethe's amazing versatility.
