 Schedule of Events

Discussion board assignments are due at 10:50 p.m. on either Thursday or Sunday. Responses are due at 11:50 p.m. on either Friday or Monday.  Quizzes are due at 11:50 p.m. on either Thursday or Sunday. You MUST begin the quiz at least 15 minutes before its due time, or you will not be able to take it.

 Check the schedule for due dates of documents and exams. Participation points will be posted in the Quiz section of WebCT at midterm and the last week of class.   I will always post a message to the Announcements section of the discussion board once I have finished grading documents and exams.  At that time, you will be able to access your grades using the My Grades feature of WebCT. You will be able to access comments in the Quiz section.

Week One (Monday, August 27th -- Sunday, September 2nd)

Thursday's Topics: Introduction to Technical Communication, Ethical and Legal Considerations

Required Textbook Reading: Chapters 1 and 2

Orientation Instructions: Log into the SAC Portal (PALS), click My Courses, click English 2311, and take the orientation quiz. You must receive a grade of 100% on the orientation in order to be allowed access to the rest of the course.  If I have not received the correct orientation by Thursday at 9:50 p.m., you will not be able to turn in the first assignment. 

Writing Assignment: Log into the SAC Portal, click on My Courses, click the name of the course, click on Discussion Board, and complete a discussion board post in response to your readings. Respond to someone else's discussion board post.  Be sure to review the guidelines for post form and content on the syllabus page under #12.

In the Class Introductions section of the discussion board, post a 100-word narrative introduction of yourself .  Tell the class your name (the one you prefer to use in class), your major, and your reasons for taking the class. ("It's a requirement" is NOT acceptable as a response.) You may also include any personal information you wish to share (family, pets, hobbies, age, or other appropriate facts). Explain how the class pertains to the type of writing you do now at your job or hope to do someday in a future career.  You must use specific examples to support your ideas.  This counts as attendance credit only.

Quiz Assignment:  Online Quizzes 1 and 2 in the Quizzes section of WebCT.  I will provide the password in the Announcements section of the discussion board.

Other:  I will be holding an optional campus orientation on Tuesday, August 28th at 6:00 p.m. in Gonzales Hall 220. If you have not taken an Internet class before, would like extra help with the orientation, or want to meet me in person prior to the midterm, you are welcome to attend.

Your team leader must send me a private e-mail (delmorem@accd.edu ) that provides me with this information by Thursday, September 20th at 10:50 p.m.  Additionally, let me know if anyone does not communicate with other team members. Also, post your team's topic and assigned roles to the discussion board under research projects.

The Proposal is due as an attached document to my private address (delmorem@accd.edu ) by Sunday night at 11:50 p.m. Each team member must contribute to the research and writing of the Proposal. Each team member must have his or her portion of the document to the team leader no later than 36 hours prior to the due date; otherwise, the team leader does not have to include the work, and the writer will receive no credit on the assignment.  Do not put any non-contributing team member's name on the document.

Please label the assignment Document 1--Proposal in the subject line of your email message.  Name your file Document 1 Proposal Editor's Last Name.  (For example, if your team's editor has the last name of Achmed, the file name would be Document 1 Proposal Achmed.)   The team editor should submit a copy to me and cc all team members.

The Completion Report is due by Thursday, October 18th at 11:50 p.m. as an attached document to my private address (delmorem@accd.edu ).  Each team member must contribute to the research and writing of the Completion Report.  Each team member must have his or her portion of the document to the team leader no later than 36 hours prior to the due date; otherwise, the team leader does not have to include the work, and the writer will receive no credit on the assignment. 

Please label the assignment Document 5 Completion Report in the subject line of your email message. Name your file Document 5 Completion Report Editor's Last Name.  (For example, if your team's editor has the last name of Smith, the file name would be Document 5 Completion Report Smith.)   The team editor should submit a copy to me and cc all team members.

Also, each team member will be required to submit an affidavit that responds to questions I post on the Discussion Board concerning the research project.  Failure to do so will result in the loss of one letter grade on the Completion Report for those individuals (not the entire team). This is also due on Thursday no later than 11:50 p.m.

Remember that each person receives an individual grade on this assignment.   The grade reflects 60% individual contribution to the project as a whole and 40% quality of the overall Completion Report document.
