Welcome to English 0301 via the Internet. You probably have a lot of questions about starting the class, so below are ALL the things you need to get started with the class:
- Our course begins June 8, 2009. Access to our online learning environment (The Writer's Club) will not be available until June 7th.
- Read through the Checklist for Getting Started. http://www.accd.edu/sac/english/lirvin/0301sumsite/check.html
You will want to be able to reply in the affirmative for all the questions and topics in this checklist to see if this course is right for you. This checklist also details required texts and materials and has a course information form to fill out and send to me.
- Review our Course site--including the syllabus, calendar, announcements, and assignments.
http://www.accd.edu/sac/english/lirvin/0301sumsite/default.html
- Be sure that you fullfill all the requirements for being "oriented" to the class by no later than 6/10. (See Checklist for details about orientation). This orientation material will involve one to three hours of work.
- Start our first assignment, Book Project: Part A (BP-A) http://www.accd.edu/sac/english/lirvin/0301sumsite/ac1.html. If you plan to begin work before the official opening of our class online learning environment on 6/6, save your work on your computer as you do it. You will learn where and how to turn it in through our orientation materials and meeting.
- Be sure you get our textbooks:
Anker, Susan. Real Essays: With Readings 2nd Ed . Bedford/St. Martin's, 2004.
Elbow, Peter. Writing Without Teachers.
- If you haven't contacted me by email yet, please do so--llirvin AT gmail.com
(the above email address would look like this: emailaddress@gmail.com--I avoid writing my real email address for spam purposes)
- Make plans to attend our online orientation (choose one): either Sunday, June 7th from 8-9 PM or Tuesday, June 9th from 8-9 PM. Each of these will be held in an online conferencing program called Elluminate. View this page with full instructions for how to attend this online orientation:

I look forward to this semester's class, and to having all of you in this class. Contact me in the meantime if you have any questions--llirvin AT gmail.com or 486-0672 (email is the preferred way for questions).
***Special Note: PLEASE wait to set up your own accounts in our online learning environment (called The Writer's Club) until 6/6. Thanks.***
***Second Special Note!-- This is the ONLY class announcement posted as a webpage here. All other class announcements are posted within our Online Learning Environment. |
