Writing Assignment Policy --Engl1301

We will be doing a lot of writing and turning in of drafts of essays. This page outlines all the policies related to writing assignments, peer response, and writer's reviews:

Late Drafts of Essay:
--10 points off your average in the Attendance and On-Time Drafts portion of your grade

Late Final Drafts of Essays:
--10 points off your average in the Attendance and On-Time Drafts portion of your grade
(draft due in one week or late penalty applied and due again in one week. Final drafts not turned in after three weeks may result in your being dropped from the class)

Acceptable Drafts:
Drafts that are reasonably close to the minimum expectations assigned will be "accepted" and deemed "on time" (provided peer response and writer's review is completed also). Unacceptable drafts either due to lack of effort, incompleteness, or severe grammatical problems will be due the next class. The instructor has discretion to consider an unacceptable draft as a late draft and assess the penalty.

Peer Response:
--counts 4 pt. each of daily work (12pts. total with three peer responses).
You will ALWAYS be able to do a fourth peer response for extra credit.
Note: Peer responses should follow the guidelines for peer response to receive full credit.
--
If ALL peer responses are not completed on the date the essay is due, they must be completed by the day of the next class period or the essay draft will be considered as late (resulting in the -5 pt. penalty being assessed to your Attendance and On-Time draft grade).

Late Writer's Reviews:
--
After each draft, we will write a reflection about that draft and your drafting process. I place a high value on performing these reflective writing pieces. As with peer responses, if the writer's review is not completed on the date the essay is due, it must be completed by the day of the next class period or the essay draft will be considered as late (resulting in the -5 pt. penalty being assessed to your Attendance and On-Time draft grade).

Writer's Reviews have minimum word length requirements (typically of 150-250 words). Writer's Reviews not meeting or coming close to this word length requirement will not be considered complete.

Moral:

"Draft" mean not just the writing, but the peer response and writer's review too. You must do ALL of these to complete a "draft" and have it considered "on time."
