Draft 3-2 Activities

Peer Response
Please do THREE peer responses--you can do a fourth peer response for extra-credit. These are more detailed peer responses, so plan on each taking roughly 30 minutes.

1) SAY BACK what you hears is the author's "definition" of the project of the video and their opinion of how Lakoff's conceptual metaphors are working to help achieve this project. Please offer a second version of their "thesis" that may present an improved or differently phrased definition of the video's project.
(E.g. This video presents Hillary as an empathetic candidate that listens, and it supports this message through the use of powerful metaphors of nurturance and the nation as family.)

2) GROUNDING IN LAKOFF
Where has the writer grounded their analysis in Lakoff well? (copy and paste the example or examples in--this should include using quotes)?
Find an additional quote IN Lakoff that you think they need to use in their paper--include this quote. Offer two or more if you can. (i.e. help them ground their analysis more in Lakoff)

3) USE OF RESEARCH SOURCES
POINT to a place (or places) where you think their use of words and information from research sources contributes well to the paper.
POINT to places where this use of information from sources is not working well or is missing and needed.

4) STRUCTURE
The overall essay should be structured clearly into the three parts of the essay designated in the assignment. Most importantly, the second and third sections (Noting Key Words and Phrases) works as the BODY of the essay where the definition of the project is developed through analysis of the video. This second section should have a clear structure. Likewise the third section (Assessing the Uses and Limits) is a second BODY section. These sections should be developed through some logical structure.

DESCRIBE the structure that you see the author using in these two sections of the paper (Noting Key Words and Phrases and Assessing the Uses and Limits). What is the pattern of their development? Can you offer any suggestions regarding the structure of their essay?

Draft 3-2 Writer's Review

Describe where you are with this essay right now. What are your greatest confusions or anxieties about the assignment? What do you think is going well so far (examine the glass half full)? Where are you experiencing problems and have gaps in your paper (examine the glass half empty)?

What have you see in other's drafts that give you some ideas and help for your own paper? What do you plan to do as you work on the final draft for the essay? What are your goals and problem-solving tasks in this final draft? Think about your eventual audience who will read this on the Decision2008@SAC site (fellow students). What do think you need to do to reach this audience?

Deadline for 3-2 Activities: Any peer responses or your 3-2 Writer's Review not finished in class are due by Thursday morning 4/3 at 9:25 AM. Remember, the Writer's Review is posted as a reply to your own essay post.
