Login Trouble
Problem #1: Popup blockers
When you type in your username and password
and click "Login," nothing appears to happen. The second window
opening the Xpress client window (where you actually enter enCore) does
not open. The problem, most likely, is a popup blocker installed on that
workstation that is blocking access to enCore.
The fix
1) In some popup blockers, there is a link override. If you hold down
either the SHIFT or the CONTROL key before you click the login button
and hold it down until the new window opens, you should be able to get
in.
2) A second option is to "teach" the popup blocker
to accept the enCore site. Many different popup blockers exist, but here
are the instructions for modifying Netscape 7.1 so that its built in popup
blocker allows access to enCore:
NETSCAPE 7.1 USERS
If you're using the most recent version of Netscape, you may need to
change the default setting for "popup" windows. Because enCore
opens in a new window, Netscape reads the new window as a popup and blocks
it. To resolve the problem, do this:
*EDIT
*PREFERENCES
*PRIVACY & SECURITY
*POPUP WINDOWS
*ALLOWED SITES
*ADD (web address of the site. For example-- "projectachieve.net:2221")
*click OK
If you can't find that or it doesn't work, some folks have found that
try holding the CONTROL key down *before* you click "Go" and
continue to hold it until the new window has fully loaded will bypass
the popup block.
3) The final option is to disable or delete the popblocker
Contact your enCore Adminstrator for more information.
Problem #2: No Java
When you login, the viewing window (on the right) will open, but the
text window (on the left) does not open. A message stating "java
is not enabled" or something like that shows at the top of the text
window on the left. enCore needs JAVA installed in order for the full
program to load properly.
Fix
You need to download a JAVA plug-in to make enCore work correctly. The
plug in is free and does not hurt your computer in any way. You can get
the plug in from this address:

Windows 2000 or XP Users--Difficulty Installing Java
You may experience problems installing Java because you may not have the
user priviledges to install new programs. Windows 2000 and XP creates
different levels of users--only the Administrator level typically has
the rights to install new programs. In this case, you may need to change
your user account type, and then try installing JAVA again.
Follow these steps to change your account type so that
Java can be successfully installed:
1) Go to CONTROL PANEL
2) Click on USER ACCOUNTS
3) Select your account (or whatever account you want to have "Administrator"
powers...
4) In the DETAILS tab click on TASKS
5) Select the task CHANGE THIS ACCOUNT TYPE
6) Change you account type to a "computer administrator" (rather
than a limited user account)
You should now be able to download and install Java
successfully (see Sun web site above).
Do a Windows Update
This problem has been resolved in some cases by doing a Windows
Update, especially downloading and installing the Service Pack 3 for
Windows.
To do a windows update, open Internet Explorer. Click
on TOOLS and pull down to Windows Update. The download of the Service
Pack 3 is quite large... .
Problem #3: An old browser
enCore will work with Internet Explorer and Netscape version 4 and
above. If you are having difficulty accessing enCore, check what browser
you have. To see what version browser you have, while you have your browser
open, click on the HELP menu item and pull down to About Internet Explorer
or About Netscape. You should see what version of the program you
have. Make sure you have a browser that is able to access the enCore.
If you need to update the version of your browser, visit these two sites
for newer versions of Netscape or Internet Explorer:
Problem #4: Firewall
A firewall can prevent access to enCore. If you have you suspect your
firewallmay be blocking access to enCore, you can open the firewall application
or feature and set the firewall to allow access to particular sites.
Set your firewall to allow access to the enCore program you are using.
In some cases, you may need to contact the technician managing the network
you are working in to perform these settings.
If you have tried some of these suggestions, but still
have difficulty accessing enCore, contact your enCore MOO Administrator
for more help.
