Introduction

Command summary

This part of the guide summarizes commands for doing common tasks in the MOO.


Commands for looking at objects and people

Command What it does
clicking on the link in the viewing area Displays a description of the object you clicked on in the talk area and the viewing area.
look (can be abbreviated to l) Displays a description of the room you are in in the talk area and viewing area.
look person Displays a description of the person you have specified in the talk area and viewing area.
look me Displays your description in the talk area and the viewing area and a list of what you are carrying in the talk area.
look object Displays a description of the object you have specified in the talk are and viewing area.
@examine object Displays a description of the object in the talk area and the viewing area. Displays the object number, the aliases, and a list of the commands that you can use on an object in the talk area.
@examine here Displays a description of the room you are in in the talk area and the viewing area. Displays the object number, the aliases, and a list of the commands that you can use in the room in the talk area.
@examine me Displays your player's description of the object in the talk area and the viewing area. Displays your player's object number, your aliases, and a list of the commands that you can use in the talk area.
@examine person Displays your player's description of the object in the talk area and the viewing area. Displays your player's object number, your aliases, and a list of the commands that you can use in the talk area.
@d object Displays in the talk window only a quick summary of information about the object including the object number, its aliases, its location, its owner and its size.
@d here Displays in the talk window only a quick summary of information about the room you are in including the object number, its aliases, its location, its owner and its size.
@d person Displays in the talk window only a quick summary of information about the person, including its object number, its aliases, and its location.

 


Talking to other people

Command What it does
say text Displays what you have typed with You say, "text." in the talk area.
"text Displays what you have typed with You say, "text." in the talk area.
to person Text. Displays what you have typed with Yourname [to person]: Text in the talk area. (Note: the person must be in the same room as you.)
emote action Displays what you have typed with Yourname actions in the talk area. (Note: you should describe actions in the third person since they will be displayed in the third person. For example, emote waves will be displayed as Erin waves.)
:action Displays what you have typed with Yourname actions in the talk area. (Note: you should describe actions in the third person since they will be displayed in the third person. For example, emote waves will be displayed as Erin waves.)
page player text Sends a private message to the player you have named. (Note: the player doesn't have to be in the same room as you, but they do have to be connected to the MOO.)

 


Navigating the MOO

Command What it does
clicking on a link Takes you to the room that you clicked on.
@ways Displays in the talk area only a list of all exits/links from the room. You can then type the name of the way you want to follow.
@join person Takes you to the room where the person you specified is.
@go room Transports you to the room you have named.

 


Customizing your character

Command What it does
Clicking on the options button on the button bar Takes you to the player options screen
Clicking on the links in the player options screen Allows you to change various options
Save changes button Saves your changes

 


Working with objects (using the Xpress Object Editor)

Command What it does
Clicking on the object button on the button bar Opens the object editor
List objects button Lists all the objects you own
Create object button

Lets you create an object.

Edit object button Lets you edit an object
Recycle object button Lets you recycle an object
Save changes button Lets you save changes.

Getting more information about an object

Command What it does
look object Displays the object's description in the talk area and the viewing area.
@examine object Displays a description of the object in the talk area and the viewing area. Displays the object number, the aliases, and a list of the commands that you can use on an object in the talk area.
@contents object Displays a list of the contents of an object (such as a recorder) in the talk area and the viewing area.
@d object Displays in the talk window only a quick summary of information about the object including the object number, its aliases, its location, its owner and its size.
@contents me Displays a list of what objects you are carrying in the talk window.
help object Displays the help for that object.
@verbs object Displays a list of all the commands you can use on an object.

Moving objects around

Command What it does
drop object Places the object in the room that you are located in.
take object Picks up an object from the room that you are in. You are now "carrying" the object.
give object to person Gives the object to a person in the room with you.
@move object to place Moves the object to the place you specify. (Note; you may have to use the object number for the place.)

Making rooms

Command What it does
Clicking on object editor button Opens up the object editor to create a room
Create object button Create a new room
Connect my room to option Lets you specify an entrance and exit in the object editor
Edit object button Lets you edit the room's description
Go to room button

Takes you to the room you've just created

@chparent here to #ofroom Changes the room's parent to another. (Available options: #161 [large pod], #257 [small meeting room], #283 [office])

 


Xpress options

Command What it does
Xpress button Takes you into the xpress navigator.
Bookmarks button Opens the bookmarks screen.
Log button Opens the logging screen (to turn your log on or off.)
Notebook button Opens the notebook screen (to add text to your notebook or save or email text.)
VASE button Opens the virtual assignment server environment page.

 


Getting help

Command What it does
help button Opens the help browser which you can use to search for help.
light bulb icon Displays help related to that area.
help Displays the general help index.
help here Displays help for the room.
help object Displays help for the object you specify (if you are holding it.)
help command Displays help for the command you specify.
