Login Trouble?

Are you experiencing difficulty logging into the MOO?
In all likelihood, you are unable to get into the MOO when you click the "Log In" button. The most probable cause is your internet browser. EnCore MOOs have system requirements of Netscape Communicator 4.08 or later, or Internet Explorer 4.0 (4.5 on Macs) or later. Cookies, Java, and Javascript must be enabled.

Netscape 6 or AOL Users most likely need to download a JAVA plug in to make AlaMOO work correctly. The plug in is free and does not hurt your computer in any way. You can get the plug in from this address:

http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html

AOL Users--Beward the AOL Browser
If you access the MOO using AOL and its internal web browser, that may be the cause of your login difficulties. It would be better for you to download Internet Explorer (or Netscape) and access the MOO using that browser instead of AOL's. See the links below to download the browser software (it's free...).

Windows 2000 or XP Users--No Java
I have encountered a few instances where the xpress graphical window will open, but the text side of the moo does not. A message stating "java is not enabled" or something like that shows at the top of the text window on the left. I can offer two possible solutions for this difficulty (try them in turn)

Change User Account Type
Windows 2000 and XP by default do not come with Java installed or enabled. In addition, they by default make account types "limited" so the typical user is not able to download and install the plug-in. Follow these steps to change your account type so that Java can be successfully installed:

1) Go to CONTROL PANEL
2) Click on USER ACCOUNTS
3) Select your account (or whatever account you want to have "Administrator" powers...
4) In the DETAILS tab click on TASKS
5) Select the task CHANGE THIS ACCOUNT TYPE
6) Change you account type to a "computer administrator" (rather than a limited user account)

You should now be able to download and install Java successfully (see Sun web site above).

Do a Windows Update
This problem has been resolved in some cases by doing a Windows Update, especially downloading and installing the Service Pack 3 for Windows.

To do a windows update, open Internet Explorer. Click on TOOLS and pull down to Windows Update. The download of the Service Pack 3 is quite large...

How do I check the version of my browser?
While you have your browser open, click on the HELP menu item and pull down to About Internet Explorer or About Netscape. You should see what version of the program you have. Make sure you have a browser that is able to access the MOO. If you need to update the version of your browser, visit these two sites for newer versions of Netscape or Internet Explorer:

If you have tried some of these suggestions, but still have difficulty accessing AlaMOO, contact Lennie Irvin for more help.
