Putting student-to-student communication in context

The advent of computers has not really changed the essential nature of writing.  Computers are no different than previous writing “technologies,” nor do they create any new ways of writing or types of learning behavior.  They do, however, enhance certain of these tasks and characteristics and thus cause a change to how we write and to how we learn in a computer environment.  In particular, the networked computer environment seems to enable student-to-student communication, resulting in collaborative and constructivist learning experiences.
