Spring 2008 Computer Classroom Notes

Orient Students
Be sure to take a few minutes to go over our room use guidelines with your students. These policies have been slightly updates this semester. They are easily accessible from our computer classroom home page. I suggest you stress that computers are for class-related work to avoid distracting MySpace access.

Printing
Please exercise moderation with the amount of printing you and your students do in the computer classroom.  In particular, limit the printing from the web and from online databases (it seems reasonable to allow them to print one or two articles of 2-5 pages, but not beyond that).

Additional paper should be obtained from the Developmental Lab in Rm. 122.

Log Off After Each Use

Please remember to ask your students to log off (and not shut down) after each class period.  This step will enable our machines to receive critical security and software updates.  The network login is on the wall.

Room 216 Use

We must continue to work within the agreement we made with the Continuing Education Department for using this room.  1) It is to be used ONLY when our other two computer classrooms are being used.  2) It is available to us only in the day (for night time use we'd have to get special permission from the CE Dept.). 3) Only teachers trained in using the room can use it. Tech problems must be walked down to Elida's office or put into her box.

Room Courtesy
Please remember to ask students to close out all programs (and log off) as well as pick up their area and put the chairs back in their places.  WE are the ones who take care of the room and its appearance.

Overhead Projector Bulb Conservation

Mute or turn of the ceiling-mounted projector when you pause or stop using it. The bulbs cost a lot of money, so we'd like to have them last a long time.

Tech Reporting/ Tech Help

Please fill out a tech report form as you encounter problems.  Leave them in the room and a dept. Computer Technician (Daniel or Elida) will pick them up and address them.  For more immediate assistance, call Elida directly at #2502.

Room Codes
Please remember to treat these room codes themselves like keys. Please do not give out the room code to any students or to teachers not scheduled in the computer classroom. Spot-use teachers are let in by the department office and do not receive the code. Refer teachers to Lennie Irvin for scheduling and access.

Faculty Workstations

Login to the Faculty Workstations with your personal ACCD login (like you do with your office workstation). The room login profiles will not work on those machines. In order to print, you need to connect to the printer in the room (I recommend that you request help from Elida on how to do this). No PubDoc access.
