Computer Aided Drafting and Design Program

Geographic Information Systems

We have received Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approval for our new Associate of Applied Science program in Geographic Systems.  The new technology has possibilities in a large number of industries and businesses and we are very excited about our new program.  A Geographic Information System is a blend of computer hardware, software, and data which allows the linking of maps and data. This link then leads to much information which can be used in decision making. Examples where GIS can be used are: business location analysis, real estate, 911 systems, oil and gas exploration, and property appraisal. This technololgy is expected to be adopted by a large cross section of industry and the demand for a GIS technician is expected to grow. The primary software is the industry standard ArcView and ArcInfo by ESRI.  Please call us if you have an interest in this area.

Desktop Courses

We have begun to teach special topics courses on the various desktops offered by Autodesk.  This past summer (2001) we taught the latest version of Architectural Desktop followed by a course in Technical Presentations using 3D Studio VIZ.  This next summer we are thinking about offering either a course on Inventor, Mechanical Desktop, or Land Development Desktop.   Our thought is that there is the most need for a course in Inventor or Mechanical Desktop.  If you are interested in any of these courses please contact us and voice your preferences by clicking on the email link below.  We will then notify you of the course schedule.

Technical Presentations

We have changed our software in the Technical Presentations course from 3D Studio Max  to 3D Studio VIZ.  We think VIZ will be of  more demand in the technical arena.  It appears that Max is going to be used more for figure animation while VIZ will be more useful for walk throughs and fly by animation.  If you have any thoughts please contact us by email at the address below.
