This course is organized thematically into seven
lectures.
In lecture 1, we discuss what political culture is and how
it is formed and transmitted in society.
Lecture 2 explores political ideas. beliefs and
ideology with their requisite philosophical grounding throughout
history.
Lecture 3 will delve into American political
culture, its origins and its influence within the broader global
community.
Lecture 4 deals with American political culture has
changed to accept Africans,
American Indians and other migrants as well as the challenges America
faces as it
attempts to assimilate these groups into her political culture.
Lecture 5 expands on the Polity discussion in Lecture 4
by exploring the case of
women within American political culture.
Lecture 6 will allow us to examine how
political culture forms and reflects ideology, the ways people
can participate politically, and the factors that
encourage or discourage participation among the polity.
Lecture 7 will analyze the role of our political culture
in the world. How has American political culture influenced
our neighbors' political cultures---how have our neighbors'
political culture influenced our own?
