Tentative Schedule Fall 2009*

* Because of difficulty anticipating time needed for certain activities in course (e.g. simulation) this schedule is tentative.  Any changes will be announced in class and posted here.

Wednesday 26 August we will pick our UN Crisis Topic and Assign Roles.  See UN Crises and Roles  www.accd.edu/sac/gov/rogers/ir/UNcrisesroles.htm  Notice:  I have added the Russia/Georgia Conflict and Maritime Piracy as issues.  Also, I have made changes in the roles to play. Notice that I am allowing some NGO's (non-governmental organizations like Amnesty International) and IGOs (Intergovernmental Organizations like the IAEA).  We will vote first on the crisis (probably have to have at least one run-off vote).  Once we pick the crisis - we will discuss roles.  Before coming, you should select your 1, 2, 3 choice for Crisis and your 1, 2, 3, 4 choice for role within that crisis.

Friday 28 August we will pick our Group Topics and Assign Students to Groups. See Presentations www.accd.edu/sac/gov/rogers/ir/presentations.htm

DO NOT WORRY ABOUT PREPARATION ON GROUP TOPICS UNTIL 31 October

Flexibility in Lecture & Reading Focus

Note One: Some of my lecture topics may change if they overlap too much with presentations or simulation. If that happens, readings will change as well.

Note Two - Readings TBA: A number of readings for the course (especially for Annual Editions: World Politics) are "TBA" i.e. "to be assigned."  This reason for this is that until we select our UN crisis & until the groups pick their presentations topics (and the order in which these topics will be presented) it is impossible to assign the readings.  After we select our group presentation topics and simulation issue - additional readings will be selected and assigned and this site will be updated so that readings from World Politics will be assigned.
