Where to Email Teacher or Classmates
- WHERE TO EMAIL INSTRUCTOR: For any questions, problems, or positive feedback, students email instructor only at wsmith@mail.accd.edu. That is, students do not use WebCT, personal email or WebCT Discussion Board to ask questions, state problems, or provide positive feedback. When a student emails me, she/he needs to provide her/his course and section number (e.g., GOVT 2302.090).
-
HOW TEACHER EMAILS STUDENTS:When Professor Smith needs to contact a single student or send a mass communication to the entire class, she will email students through the class' private, WebCT email system. Students go through PALS, then press on "My Courses," next press on GOVT course. Once in WebCT homepage, the student presses on the "mail" icon to obtain and read such emails.
If students want to receive emails through a private/personal account, these students must inform the instructor that they want to be contacted and such students must receive a verification email from me stating that such a request has been made and has been approved.
Accordingly, it is not automatic that a student will receive general communication emails simply because she/he has corresponded with me via a private/personal email. Therefore, without the request and verification from instructor, students will receive emails only as stated above.
If a student does not know how to use the courses private WebCT email system, for in-person assistance attend the Internet Skills Center training, go to the SLAC lab, or call Technical Support: (210) 220-1616.
- CAVEAT: Read and follow the Online Communications Guidelines for Students and Online Ethics. Therefore, I want each student to remember:
- Please do not use text messaging grammar. It is difficult to understand for those of us who do not know this language. For examples of text messaging grammar, press here or this link.
- NO flaming is allowed (i.e., the use of inappropriate language online is not permitted).
- The Discussion Board is used only for online discussions to complete the assigned requirements of the class.
- Students are not to use the class' private WebCT email system for a gripe/complaint session.
- If students have concerns, questions,or issues, I ask each student to email me at wsmith@mail.accd.edu.
I always want to assist students in all course related matters!
