Self-Test Chapter Quizzes (19)

  • Take each 30 question, multiple-choice, chapter self-test located in the Online Learning Student Center, to prepare for the Quizzes.
  • There are 10 questions on each quiz covering two or more chapters.
  • Three to five of the questions are taken directly from the self-tests (even numbers only), one or two questions are written by the instructor.
  • The self-tests are linked on the calendar and paced accordingly; or access direct from the student OLC.
  • Re-test until you have at least 80%.
NOTE: DO NOT email your quiz score to the instructor on the form provided at the end of the test. Keep your own grade record for each self-test. Your two lowest quiz scores will be dropped.

Incomplete policy:

  • The grade of "I" is assigned only when the student has a passing average on all completed work, but for a justified reason (supported by valid documentation such as illness, or death in the family) has failed to take the final examination or to complete other required work.
  • This "I" becomes an "F" in 120 calendar days unless certain conditions are met. To replace an "I" the student must complete the work within those 120 days after the end of the term in which the "I" is issued. Re-enrollment for the course does not replace the "I."

Topic Discussion/ Analysis (3)

  • HIST 2321 is a Writing Intensive (WI) course.
  • There will be one specific topic discussion/writing assignment per unit.
  • Discussion papers need to be word processed (typed), double-spaced with 10-12 fonts and one-inch margin, assignments vary in length and will be discussed in class - normally 3-4 pages, 850-1000 words.
  • Topic discussion papers are due on the assigned date (see schedule) after class discussion. Late papers incur a grading penalty.
  • The cumulative total of the writing assignments (study guide and final paper) and the essay portion of each unit exam is 60% of your final grade.
Quizzes & Exams:
  • Quizzes - There will be two or three ten-fifteen minute quizzes per unit—based primarily on the text, class sessions and the Student Center online multiple choice chapter self-tests — a total of eight (8) for the course (see note above).
  • Grades from the six (6) highest will be retained. No make-ups will be given for the quizzes.
  • There will be three (3) one hour unit exams (30% matching, 30% multiple choice, 40% essay) and a final exam.
  • The final exam is comprehensive with questions taken from the unit quizzes.
Scantrons:
  • All students must supply their own pencils and scantrons for exams.
  • Four (4) will be required.
  • A package of scantrons may be purchased at any area college bookstore (form # 882-ES) .
Testing:
  • Quizzes and exams are given on the dates marked in the assignment schedule. All students are expected to take tests in class at that time.
  • Notification by email or in-person within 24 hours for all missed exams is required.
  • If you have an excused absence for a unit test you must arrange with the instructor to take a make-up exam.
  • If you have an excused absence (supported by a medical certificate or a documented family emergency) during an exam period  you must arrange with me to have the exam made accessible at another time. There are no make-ups possible on the unit quizzes.
Final Exam policy:
  • A student who must be absent from a final examination should petition that instructor for permission to reschedule the examination.
  • A student absent without permission from a final examination is graded "F."
  • Postponed examinations result in a grade of "I."

The final examination must be taken within 120 calendar days from the end of the semester, or the grade automatically becomes an "F."
