Contacting the Instructor

There are five methods by which you may contact me during this course. Read each carefully.
Note when each is appropriate and most effective. I will be coming in to the office only once a week.
It will not do you much good to call when I am almost always available online.

Telephone

My voice mail is always on but I monitor calls irregularly. I do NOT consider the phone to be a preferable way to communicate in an Internet class. I have a severe hearing loss and, to put it simply, phone and hearing aids do NOT mix! If you decide to call and leave a message, please give your name and number slowly and distinctly. Do not ask that I call you back. Often times it is a long distance call and it must therefore be returned through proper district channels. It is time-consuming and, given my hearing impairment, not at all easy.

E-Mail

E-Mail is by far the best way to reach me. I am always online since I teach four online classes.
I return most messages within 12 hours although sometimes I am out of town at a history conference, etc. In that case, I try to answer within 24 hours but sometimes I don't always find a suitable connection at the hotel where I am staying. Initially, you may use
nmcmillan@mail.accd.edu
to contact me.

However, once the class has established itself and the semester/session is underway, all correspondence must take place within WebCT or Blackboard Vista. Both offer Mail (private)
and Discussion Board.

Important Note: Assignments must be submitted through the proper Blackboard Vista dropbox. I do NOT accept submissions through any other format.

Fax

Department fax is used only when submitting valid medical documentation that is required when quizzes, exams or submission due dates are missed. See syllabus for more details. The History office fax number is obtainable from the History secretary.

In Person

My office is located in Chance Academic Center, the building directly south of the tallest building on campus (Moody Learning Center--the library). My office # is 010 located in the bottom floor of CAC.

Come by after scheduling an appointment with me to introduce yourself or turn something in. If I am not on campus when you come, please check in with my department office so you can sign that you have left something in my Mail Box. The History office is on the main floor, Room # 103.

Note: I am not on campus on Tuesdays or Thursdays. If you are having to travel in from an adjacent town or city, please schedule an appointment so that I know that you are coming in to see me.
