I went on to UT, Austin and graduated with high honors with degrees in English and Spanish, maintaining 4.0 major gpa's and an overall 3.8....
There has been a lot of talk in academic library circles lately about learning communities on campuses - it took me a while to realize that I was actually in one! The presidential honors program was a great experience...
The honors program had such a profoundly positive impact on my life. Not only was it the most educationally conducive environment that I have ever been in, but I was able to forge relationships that I know will last a life time...
I'm glad to hear that the Honors program still exists. That scholarship was instrumental in helping me obtain my degree. Thank you for all your support...
I just want to thank you and the program for all that you've done...
The honors program was a wonderful stepping stone and I hope that it continues to serve others as it has served me. Thanks again...
As for me, I'm living in Chicago now, and it's really really cold! I guess you could say I'm living part of the american dream, because I managed to score my dream job even before I graduated from Otis. I'm working as a toy designer for an invention house called Big Monster Toys, LLC. We come up with the ideas, make the prototypes and present them to our clients, like Mattel and Hasbro. If they like the idea, they'll buy it from us and make it under their label. It's a pretty sweet gig.
I decided on a major that couples my interests in health care with my personality profile of administration: a Bachelor's of Health care Administration at Texas State University-San Marcos. I have an internship coming up this summer and also one in the fall. I will be finished with all the degree requirements and graduate in December. (Total time in college= 4 years + one semester). I plan on working and living in San Antonio.
I graduated from UTSA in May 2005 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, minor in Sociology. I just got engaged to Gene Reese, whom I've been with for 2 years and are planning tentatively for a May or June 2007 wedding. Currently I'm doing marketing and promotional work for several companies.
I'm a senior at University of Arizona, majoring in Astronomy. This past summer I did a NSF Research Experience for Undergrads (REU) with the BYU physics and astronomy department. I hope to do another one some where else this summer. When I transferred to U of A, all of my gen. eds. were completed. The Western Civilization classes I took through the honors program didn't help with histories, but it filled other requirements. Since I'm paying out of state tuition, those classes have saved me a lot of money! I never regret a single class that I take. Every class has helped me in one way or another.
I've been working for an Architecture firm in San Antonio, what is better than working within your field and gaining experience. The honors program help me transition from a community college to a university with the help of scholarships and professors that could guide me in the process. I learned so much from the Honors College, skills that I use at school and work that I never thought could make a big difference in my life, but they do. It taught me to be disciplined, hard working, organized, to have leadership and eager to search for more and not settle for the easy route.
The Honors Program definately helped me!! I was a little intimidated when starting college, but getting to meet the students that I would have some classes with for the next two years in the Honors Program helped me settle in quickly, and we soon built a great learning community with one another. I love to be challenged and all of my Honors professors got me to think outside the box, and they also helped me develop outstanding research skills that have come in handy when writing my thesis. Writing that finally paper about the Barbie Doll seemed hard and unnessecary, but it was just practice for writing the thesis I am doing now. What I also enjoyed about the program is that I got to take some classes I normally would not have taken---philosophy, western civilization. These classes helped extend my view of the world and understand different cultures and beliefs which will benefit me in the teaching profession with our schools becoming so much more diversified. The Honors Program basically helped me stay on track and push myself to the max getting the fullest education I could obtain.
The Honors Program is a greatly beneficial experience that helps with the transition from high school to college. The Program provides structure to incoming freshmen and continually facilitates growth via challenging classes and well-selected faculty.
The SAC Honors Program was a great experience. I still think about my old friends and professors, and wonder how they're doing.
Honors Programs has helped me to become an open minded, and well rounded person in different aspects of my life. I truly appreciate my western civilization, philosophy, literature and history classes. They've become a base knowledge of the world that I know today. Thank you very much for giving me such a great opportunity to broaden my vision.
1- less debt (I am going to have enough from medical school) by doing my first two years free. 2- I am a better writer than most of the other students i encounter because of the writing experience in the Honors Program. 3- The honors program has made me a well-rounded student by broadening the types of subjects I have studied during my academic career.
The Honors program at SAC laid the groundwork for a successful college experience. I learned a lot from the excellent teachers and students there, and the small classes provided things that a large university really cannota personal feel and one-on-one attention. I was also really happy to have a seamless transition to Texas State University.
Mr. Burton -- I graduated from the Honors Program 2 years ago. You had written an recommendation letter for me to get into the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. Well, I got accepted to UTHSCSA! Thank you so much for everything. The honors program was one of the best things I have ever done and I really appreciate your guidance and support.
Thank you,
