The Presidential Honors Program is a full scholarship liberal arts based program for students who want a high quality and challenging college education.

Attending the San Antonio College Honors Program can help motivated students build academic momentum. Freshman at big universities are often overwhelmed by the large classes, and professors for freshman and sophomore classes are usually graduate students, part-time teachers or non-tenured professors. San Antonio College, with its small classes, support systems, and high percentage of tenure track professors, often can do a better job of preparing students academically for upper-division and graduate work than the big universities do. When the accelerated classwork of the Honors program is added into the equation, SAC has one of the best lower-division programs in the state. Our graduates who transfer to upper division institutions maintain or improve the GPA they earned at SAC.

A limited number of students are selected for this program every fall and spring semester. High school applicants are evaluated on the basis of high school GPA and class rank, SAT and/or ACT test scores, teacher recommendations and weight of academic load (number of math, science, social science, and humanities courses). Selected students are given a full scholarship (tuition and books). Those entering the program then take a mix of honors courses, contract courses, and regular courses to fulfill the requirements of the Honors program and of the students' major. Graduates of the program can enter degree programs at universities in any field. The Honors program also helps place its students in universities and often can help students gain scholarship continuations into the Junior and Senior year.

Our graduates have been accepted to Amherst College, Boston College, Boston University, Columbia, Cornell, U. C. at Berkeley, SMU, Notre Dame, Stephen F. Austin, UT in Austin, Arlington, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, and Denton, and the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio and Houston, Texas A & M, Rice, Texas Tech, North Texas State, the College of Santa Fe, St. Edwards University, St. Mary's University, Our Lady of the Lake University, South West Texas State University, Trinity University, The University of Central Oklahoma, The University of Turabo in Puerto Rico, Northland College in Wisconson, and Wabash College in Indiana. If you are a good student looking for a challenging first two years of college and help in getting into a strong upper-division university, you should look into the Presidential Honors Program at San Antonio College.
