PLANNING COUNCIL MINUTES
September 30, 1996

2:00 - 4:00
I. Minutes of the September 9, 1996 meeting were approved.
II. The planning cycle was reviewed.
III. Content of Workshop "B" was reviewed.
A. Workshop "B" will be primarily handled by Steve.
1. He will discuss an overview of how the units can generate the information needed for self evaluation and provide information on support units can receive from the Research Office.
IV. Discussion concerning the development of goals for the 1997 - 1998 plan resulted in the consensus opinion that at this time, rather than having College Goals, the Council would identify functional categories of the college and the strategic objectives would give focus to the college.
A. It was decided to use the following categories:
1. Education
a. Career
b. Continuing
c. General
d. Transfer
2. Educational Support Elements
a. Developmental Education
b. Support for Education (i.e. Labs, Tutoring, LRC, etc.)
3. Student Life
4. Counseling and Services for Special Populations
5. Recruitment/Admissions/Records
6. Facilities/Equipment
7. Employee Development
8. Administration a. Administrative Support
9. Community Relations
B. Concern was expressed that nine categories are too many.
C. It was decided that discussion on the categories and the wording of the descriptors would be done on email so progress could be made for the next meeting.
V. The next Planning Council Meeting is scheduled for October 14 in VATC 120 at 2:00 p.m.
A. Meeting Objective: Continued discussion of the categories and their descriptors and the initial identification of possible college level strategic objectives.
VI. Next workshop: October 7, 1996, 2:00 - 4:00, VATC 120
A. Workshop Objective: Workshop "B" - "Unit Evaluation " - Unit data distributed
