Distance Education:

Regardless of your perceptions of distance education as you have noted from other sources and other colleges, there are so many variations and delivery methods and distance educational systems, our perspective will focus on distance education at San Antonio College. We will, however, bring in the best practices and best of professional experiences with distance teaching. The San Antonio College distance education systems consist of courses taught through delivery systems identified as:

  • Online courses (WebCT, Web-Site, and other course management software)

  • Blended courses (30% taught online and 70% taught face-to-face)

  • Video Courses (broadcast over the TV, or by purchased videos)

  • Off-campus courses (other physical locations)

  • Interactive Video Conferencing (two-way video and audio, various locations)

  • Virtual College (Consolidated community college offerings, SAC credit)

This training session will focus on principles, theories and suggestions to help you begin the development of your distance course, or to assume the management of an existing distance course.

WebCT is a personal preference and many of the recommendations in this training session will be based on the structure and features available through WebCT software.
