Pre-requisites: Access to a computer with internet connection. Knowledge of a word processing program, preferably Microsoft Word. Adobe Acrobat Professional version 7 beneficial but not required.

Learner Outcomes: Students completing this course will be able to use simple and complex search techniques to view, critically evaluate, and retrieve appropriate information for implementing professional or personal events.

Performance Objective 1: In small groups, students will produce reports on specific topics and will use the internet to find and retrieve content for the report, producing a comparison chart of terms used and search engine results, discussing the process with the class.

Performance Objective 2: Students will select a research question, chart the boolean terms and symbols used by 3 major search engines, identifying the number of responses and the criteria for the selected references to be put in the research report.

Measurement of Mastery of Learning Outcome: All assignments and problem solving projects will be completed with 70% accuracy, as will quizzes and the final examination.

• Discussions, Homework & PBL assignments - 60%
• Weekly Quizzes - 20%
• Midterm - 10%
• Final examination - 10%.
