Certification Procedures
This site supports the work of all faculty members at San Antonio College who teach or would like to teach online. If you would like to set up a meeting with the Internet Coordinator for consultation, please send an email to Fred Kinman at fkinman@mail.accd.edu. The following procedures are for faculty members that are developing an online/blended course from their own original files and have never formally presented a course in front of the SAC Online Advisory Committee.
1. Have the chairperson of your department send a memo indicating your plans to develop an online/blended course to the following administrators:
Dean Ruben Flores at rflores@accd.edu - Dean of Evening, Weekend, and Distance Education
Helen Torres at htorres@accd.edu - Director of Distance Education
Fred Kinman at fkinman@mail.accd.edu - Internet Course Coordinator
Dawn Elmore-McCrary at delmorem@accd.edu - Blended Learning Coordinator (if a blended course)
2. Take several courses through the Instructional Innovation Center (MLC 716) in order to get certified to develop online/blended courses, if you are not yet certified. If you are developing a blended course, you must participate in a workshop taught by Dawn Elmore-McCrary, if you have not already done so.

3. The last step of the certification process is to develop an online/blended course. Be sure the course is being developed to satisfy the SAC Online Advisory Committee requirements. These are the requirements that will be used to review and approve your course.
If your course uses WebCT as a platform, you must contact Amita Mahajan at 220-1530. Ask her to open up your WebCT course for review. It is preferred that the course be on the WebCT developmental server, not the production server.
4. Develop your course and email the course url and a WebCT ID and password (if applicable) to Fred Kinman by the following date:
October 8, 2007
5. Mr. Kinman and other members of the SAC Online Advisory Committee will review the course and prepare comments and suggestions for the faculty member during the upcoming presentation.
6. Present your course (preliminary presentation) to various members of the SAC Online Advisory Committee on the afternoon of the following date in room 716 of MLC at 4:00 PM.
October 18, 2007
In the rare case that the course earns approval during the preliminary presentation, advance to step 10 of these procedures.
7. Make necessary and appropriate changes to your course over the next few weeks.
8. The course url should once again be emailed to Fred Kinman by the following date:
November 8 , 2007
9. Present your course (final presentation) to various members of the SAC Online Advisory Committee a second time on the afternoon of the following date: Final presentation to be made in room 716 of MLC at 4:00 PM
10. Pending the approval of your course, have your certification sheet signed and stamped by Mr. Kinman and submit it to the Instructional Innovation Center in order to complete your certification.
11. Fill out the THECB section of the Internet Course Criteria Form, sign and date the last page, and pony it to Mr. Kinman in the ITIC Center.
12. Soon after the criteria form has been submitted, an email will be sent to you, Dean Ruben Flores, Helen Torres, and your chair, indicating the approval of your course.
