Diego Rios' image, Tagged, (left) was selected the best photo. In the news category, Misti Fields was honored for her story, Students provide a broader view of the world, and Julie Ann Sanchez also was recognized for Colleges need shared culture, assessment, board chair says.

The best headline was "District lights fire under smoking bans, extinguishes designated areas."
Best feature was Adnan S. Khan's op-ed piece, A rigorous bus routine saves student time and money.
 Winners for Nov. 3
Justin Vasquez's image of a group at the Halloween Benefit Concert Oct. 26 in McAllister (left) was selected as the best photo.
Adnan S. Kahn's "Book thief caught in the act by library employees" was written on a tight deadline on Thursday. César G. Rodriguez was recognized for his feature "Cyber Workout" about a physical education course offered on the Internet.
Headline of the week is "Ouch! Three-peat tuition stings students who drop classes."

 Honorees for Oct. 27
Stephanie Vasquez made the front page with her image "Stretching to the limitl." (left)
César G. Rodriguez's "Garage raises concerns" pointed out disagreement among board members about the proposed parking garage on the San Antonio College campus. Rodriguez also was recognized for his feature "Drive-in" about the venerable Mission Drive-in on the South Side of the city.
Headline of the week is "Mortuary science digs up former student for chair."

Honorees for Oct. 20Adnan S. Khan's " Sexual activities spotted by housekeeper in restrooms won for news. The article drew 183 hits on the online site. Diego Rios captured the fun of the college's annual Octoberfest with a lively photo of a Middle Eastern dance presentation on the mall west of Moody Learning Center, "Belly lesson" (left). Two headlines -- "City code mashes club's potato sales" and "Service-learning students work outside the box at food bank" -- were judged best of the week. Outstanding feature presentation went to Denis Blas (story) and Vincent Reyna (illustration) for "Make it a Blockbuster night." The story, illustration and another story and photo were displayed on a center spread turned on its side.

Honorees for Oct. 13 are: Julie Ann Sanchez won for news with Banner delay pushes back work-study, hourly pay until Oct. 31, a story which described the plight of many people on campus. Adnan S. Khan was recognized for features with Look before you leave, a timely and localized story about a problem that is nationwide: children left in cars during hot weather. Colorful graphics by Isaac Brown illustrated the problem. Manuel Durán won for photography with "See it? (photo at left)," a colorful front-page image of two students in an astronomy class viewing Jupiter.

Anthony Ramirez took top photograph honors with his "Smile, dummy." (left), and Julio Borjón was recognized for his illustration for "Life's treasures lie in the daily tending," (right) a viewpoint by Felix Cerna.
César G. Rodriguez captured the feature award with his article, "Lecturer finds 'fun, fitness' on the racquetball court."
The headline of the week is "On your mark, go, run with the music" on the story about the 5K Run for the Symphony.

Ellen Pace Fitzsimmons captured the feature award with her article, "Gubernatorial candidate Friedman kin to counselor." The feature localized the gubernatorial race in Texas
The headline of the week was "Extra hour adds up for math students."
