| Feature photo is a second level or sub-level documentation of important moments of our daily life. It is like recording an extraordinary or interesting chord of our life. It could be humorous, inspiring, reminiscent, artistic or just visually entertaining. |
| Feature photo is not like news photo that require immediate public concern, in other words, it is not as timely and important as the news photo. Spot news or general news with expected images are usually not a feature photo. |
| Photojournalists sometimes call feature photos aswild art or enterprise. |
For a feature photo to be successful, it should either be having a good heart-striking content or an interesting graphic.

How to get feature photo? |
- Be curious to the environment around you. Allow more time then usual to get to your next destination so that you can pay attention to people around you.
- Be ready. Always have your camera in hand and settings ready for the environment.
- Extraordinary. Look for the extraordinary out of ordinary life. E.g. a mover sleeping on a sofa of a moving truck.
- Sense. Use your mind, not just your eyes to feel the environment, use your five senses to communicate with the world. Imagine what would people do if they were in the same situation. E.g. under extreme hot weather. How people react to the winning of Spurs. What do you do if you are under the same situation?
- Pictorial. Look for the beauty of form, shape and light that produce a visual appealing scene.
- Idea box. Keep a file of where you could possibly find a feature art. It could be the pool, a garden, a railroad, a museum or a special neighborhood.
- Calendar. Keep a calendar of what will happen in the community. Whenever there are people gathering, there is a possibility.
- Refreshing. Go to new places, take a different route, see new things and meet new people.
- New point of view. Try a new perspective to look at the world. From top, under, inside out. At different time of the day, at a different moment other than the ordinary. Try an extreme slow shutter speed, or a super fast one. Try shooting it with a long lens or extreme close up. Experience what you get.
- News and beyond. Get away from the heat of news event. Look for people at the sideline, at backstage, under the shade.
