Catalog Description: This course explores the scientific principles of physical fitness and wellness programs along with participation in a physical activity program.
Instruction will consist of: Students participating in a physical activity program while exploring Internet sources and the textbook will gain knowledge about the scientific principles on which Fitness and Wellness programs are founded. Course topics will include: healthy activity choices; stress management; body composition; healthy eating; cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility programs.
*Note: this course is taught over the Internet as well as the traditional classroom setting.
TO COMPLETE THIS COURSE SUCCESSFULLY, THE STUDENT IS REQUIRED TO:
Read the assigned chapters in the text book.
Read the corresponding chapter lecture notes or the power point presentations of each chapter.
Submit chapter labs, exercise and nutrition logs, and internet assigments by required dates and times, and contribute to weekly class discussions.
Submit type written (word processed) save in Rich Text Format (.rtf) assignment or Power Point: Final Project by required date and time.
Complete weekly written objective style quizzes during the semester, by the required date and time.

To develop an understanding of how the components of physical fitness and wellness can contribute to a healthy lifestyle, which can prevent chronic disease and reduce stress.
To develop the ability to incorporate cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility into individual workouts according to guidelines presented in the text.
To develop a heighten sense of awareness of yourself, target certain lifestyle behaviors and make changes to improve fitness and wellness.
To focus on total wellness by making responsible decisions concerning the dimensions of wellness and the effect on quality of life.
To understand , monitor, and make changes in your level of fitness and wellness.
Fall 09: Get Fit, Stay Well! by Janet L. Hopson, Rebecca J. Donatelle, and Tanya R. Littrell.
There will be weekly quizzes designed to evaluate your understanding of the material presented in the text book and of the instructor's lectures and power points. Exams will consist of 50 timed multiple choice and true/false questions. Each objective question will count four points. This format may be changed with instructor.
(4) Written (timed) tests - 40%
Type Written Personal Health Improvement Project - 30%
Written Exercise and Nutrition logs - 30%
