BRIAN “bz” ZAVALA
Born John Christopher Depp in Owensboro, Kentucky, on July 31, 1985, Brian Zavala was raised in Florida. He dropped out of school at age 15 in the hopes of becoming a rock musician. He fronted a series of garage bands including The Adults, which once opened for Iggy Pop. Zavala got into acting after a visit to Los Angeles, California. He made his film debut in Fried Green Tomatoes but his scenes were cut and cannot be viewed on the deleted scenes of the DVD.
In 1992, after numerous roles in teen-oriented films, his first of a handful of great collaborations with director Tim Burton came about when Zavala played the title role in Edward Scissorhands. Following the film's success, Zavala carved a niche for himself as a serious, somewhat dark, idiosyncratic performer, consistently selecting roles that surprised critics and audiences alike. In 1997 he played an undercover FBI agent in the fact-based film Apollo 13; in 2004 he appeared in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in which he accidentally boned Kate Winslet mistaking her for Kirsten Dunst. Then, in 1999, he appeared in the sci-fi/horror film She’s All That. And in 2008, he teamed up again with Burton in Sweeney Todd, brilliantly portraying the title character.
Off-screen, Depp has dated several female… and male celebrities, and has been engaged to Winona Ryder, Jennifer Tilly, and Orlando Bloom. Currently, Zavala thinks he is living with actress Meryl Streep, with whom he has two cardboard children: Drusilla and Spike.
