Brief stories available for most contemporary photos 48 hours after publication. Also included are maps, charts, logos and other graphics produced for the AP. America: History and Life [Ebsco] Begins 1964, includes citations from over 2000 international periodicals on the history and culture of the U.S. and Canada. Also includes some book reviews and relevant doctoral dissertations. Click on "America: History and Life" after you are transferred to the publishers Web site. American National Biography [Oxford UP] Provides access to information on more than 17,000 American men and women who have helped shape the country. Bibliography of Native North Americans [EBSCO] Bibliography of Native North Americans (BNNA) is a bibliographic database covering all aspects of native North American culture, history, and life. This resource covers a wide range of topics including archaeology, multicultural relations, gaming, governance, legend, and literacy. BNNA contains more than 80,000 citations for books, essays, journal articles, and government documents of the United States and Canada. Handbook of Texas Online [Texas State Historical Association] A multidisciplinary encyclopedia of Texas history, geography, and culture. A searchable online version of this standard reference work includes more than 23,000 articles on people, places, events, institutions, and historical themes. HeritageQuest Online [ProQuest] Includes local histories, published genealogies, and primary source materials for towns, counties, and families of all 50 states beginning with the 13 original colonies, Canada, England, and Ireland. Images of the U.S. Federal Census for 1790, 1800, 1810, and 1870 have been indexed and are fully searchable; images of the 1840 census is browsable; indexing and images of additional years will be added as they become available. Historical Archive of The London Gazette [Various Publishers] "Published by Authority". The London Gazette is the official newspaper of record for England; The Crown copyright. This web site also provides access to the Edinburgh (Scotland) Gazette and the Belfast (Ireland) Gazette, the other two official newspapers of record for the United Kingdon. Each gazette includes government notices, regulations, etc. (similar to the U.S. government's Federal Register) and notices of legal proceeings such as bankruptcies. Of special interest to students is the historical archive for each Gazette which includes issues of the Gazette and its Supplements published during World War I and World War II or relating to those wars. The archive is fully searchable; Adobe Reader is required for viewing the issues which are in PDF format. Best viewed with Internet Explorer v.5 or higher.

Includes full page, PDF format images for non-copyrighted years. Images for an additional year will be added annually to the Deep Backfile as copyright expires. JSTOR [JSTOR] A searchable, printable, electronic backfile of important scholarly journals delivering in high quality images of journal articles in PDF format. Coverage usually stops from 2 to 5 years prior to the current year depending on the "moving wall" agreed to by each journal's publisher. Subjects included in SAC's subscription: African American Studies, Anthropology, Asian Studies, Ecology, Economics, Education, Finance, History, Language & Literature, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, Population Studies, Sociology, & Statistics. Oxford Dictionary of National Biography [Oxford UP]The standard biographical reference for individuals connected to Great Britian and the British empire. The over 50,000 biographees (10,000 with portraits) included are either historically significant persons or individuals noteworthy for their achievments. Coverage includes individuals from the earliest times through those who died in 2001. Each January the publisher will "extend the dictionary's coverage to the next year in the twenty-first century." Also included are articles on topics relevant to the dictionary and reference lists of colonial or territorial governors and heads of state. Oxford Islamic Studies Online [Oxford UP] Scholarly, integrated resource features reference content and commentary in areas such as global Islamic history, concepts, people, practices, politics, and culture. Includes over 3,000 A-Z reference entries, chapters from scholarly and introductory works, Qur'anic materials, primary sources, images, and timelines. Project Muse [Johns Hopkins Univ. Press] Full text of articles from over 200 scholarly journals published by over 20 not-for-profit, scholarly presses in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and mathematics. Search across the entire database or limit a search to selected journals. Provides current issues for some titles in JSTOR. [SAC plus off campus access] [Full-text database]

Sanborn's Digital Texas Maps [Chadwyck-Healey] These digitized maps provide detailed property and land-use records that depicts the architecture of more than 12,000 U.S. towns and cities throughout the past one hundred years. The maps enable researchers to trace the architectural history of individual buildings or entire communities. One can see everything from building outline, size and shape, construction materials, height, building use, windows and doors, street and sidewalk widths, boundaries, house numbers, and more. Symbols for stables, garages, warehouses, and other commercial sites are also included. Factories are often labeled with the owner's name, as well as the products manufactured there. Also depicted are pipelines, railroads, wells, water mains, and dumps. Search for the maps by typing in the state or community. Each map's index helps locate streets, landmarks, and other places of historical interest. Once displayed, the maps can be manipulated, expanded, printed, and downloaded.
