elementary & high school databases

The majority of these databases were included in the selection of TexShare databases and are available because the San Antonio College Library participates in the TexShare program. The San Antonio College Library encourages SAC students to read the database descriptions and be aware that information appropriate for primary and secondary school students, while useful, may be inadequate for college-level assignments.

AccuNet/AP Multimedia Archive [AccuNet/AP] Searchable archive of historical and contemporary Associated Press photographs from the nineteenth century to the present. Brief stories available for most contemporary photos 48 hours after publication. Also included are maps, charts, logos and other graphics produced for the AP. eLibrary Curriculum [Chadwyck-Healey] Articles from magazines, newspapers and journals plus transcripts for media broadcast programs, maps and other quick reference resources. The articles include an assessment of the reading level. Originally titled Electric Library, then BigChalk, and now eLibrary Curriculum. Encyclopedia of Animals [EBSCO] This extensive database provides students with thousands of easy-to-read entries about mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, dinosaurs and prehistoric animals. Each entry begins with a simple category breakdown of the animal including Kingdom, Class, Order, Genus & Species, and Geographical Locale as well as a detailed description. Facts.com [Facts on File News Services] Databases included are: the World News Digest from 1940 to present, the World Almanac, the World Almanac Encyclopedia, Issues and Controversies, and Today's Science. Funk & Wagnall's New Encyclopedia [EBSCO] This database provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas. [SAC plus off campus access] [Full-text database][TexShare database]

Handbook of Texas Online [Texas State Historical Association] A multidisciplinary encyclopedia of Texas history, geography, and culture. A searchable online version of this standard reference work includes more than 23,000 articles on people, places, events, institutions, and historical themes. The online file includes the corrections made with the Handbook's 1997 second printing plus 400 new articles not included in the print edition.[Free access to everyone] [Includes some full-text articles]

MAS Ultra: School Edition [EBSCO] General periodical database that covers general reference, business, consumer health, general health, general science and multi-cultural titles. Indexing and abstracts for the New York Times and 528 other titles. Over 459 titles have PDF and ASCII full text cover-to-cover coverage for issues beginning as early as 1990. Middle Search Plus [EBSCO] Designed to assist middle and junior high school students in learning how to research current events. The database includes searchable full text from over 150 of the most popular K-12 magazines, abstracts and indexing for over 150 titles, searchable full text of the Christian Science Monitor, and tables and graphs converted to ASCII text for a better understanding of the written article. Also included are the reference books Encyclopedia of Animals, Funk and Wagnall's New Encyclopedia, the CIA World Fact Book, and Essential Documents in American History. Primary Search [EBSCO] Designed for elementary schools and children's reading rooms, this database contains World Almanac of the USA and World Almanac for Kids, searchable full text from over 50 of the most popular K-12 magazines, abstracts and indexing for over 180 titles and pamphlets. Also included are Funk and Wagnall's New Encyclopedia, the Encyclopedia of Animals, and many charts, tables and graphs converted to ASCII text in order to retain the original meaning of featured articles.
