San Antonio College Library & Media Services: Off-Campus Database Access

The San Antonio College Library & Media Services Proxy Service allows authorized San Antonio College users to gain remote access to electronic resources licensed by the San Antonio College Library & Media Services Department.

Whenever the Library & Media Services Department purchases access to an electronic resource such as a database or an electronic journal, a license agreement must be signed. These agreements generally restrict access to authorized users only. By "authorized users," the vendor usually means a currently enrolled San Antonio College student, currently contracted faculty, administrator, or staff member, or anyone using a computer in the San Antonio College Library & Media Services Department.

You must be authenticated to access the licensed electronic resources from off campus.

Privacy of collected information: We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. Your login ID(SSN) may be linked to specific log entries, but this identification is not used for the generation of any statistics. These logs may be kept for as long as a year so that we can verify the statistics generated, if needed.

You do not need to be authenticated if:

  • Your computer is on campus (i.e. you're connected to the campus network directly).
  • You use San Antonio College's dial-in service (IDEA).

You will not be able to access the Library & Media Services' electronic resources:

  • If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or business uses a proxy of its own or has a firewall to filter access to and from its network.
  • While access is available with most browsers, we encourage the use of browsers later than Netscape 2.x, or Internet Explorer 3.1. The browser that comes with proprietary services, such as AOL, MSN, Prodigy, etc., usually cannot be used to access the subscription databases. In those cases, you must install a separate browser to access the databases.
