(Internet Course)Professor SchoenigDEFINE TOPICLocate background information using reference (Ref) sources which are located in the 2nd floor reference area of the San Antonio College Library. Check your local library catalog to see if they own the same or similar books. To access eBooks from off campus go to netLibrary and do a title search. DEVISE STRATEGYOnce you have defined your topic, you will need to know where to search for additonal information. The sources you use are often determined by the instructor or assignment. You will need to make a list of keywords to search the library catalog, databases, and the Web. SEARCH SOURCESSearching these sources can be as easy as using the index of a book or it may involve advanced searching methods used in specialized databases or Web search engines. Remember to use the "Help" button on the databases and search engines. Consult librarians at the reference desk or at Ask a Librarian for assistance in accessing and searching sources. From the San Antonio College Library (http://www.accd.edu/sac/library/) home page use your list of keywords to search in the following sources which are available 24/7 to registered San Antonio College Students. Click on Books & Media to search for books, government documents, microforms, audiovisuals, and electronic/digital resources. You may search by author, title, subject, and keyword. On the keyword search page on the right are examples of boolean operators (and, or, and not) and wildcards (*) (**) (?). To access only online full text electronic books, go to netLibrary (eBooks). Click on Articles & Reference to search for magazine or journal articles, reference and more. To learn how to access databases from off campus go to Setup Instructions. The following may be helpful for your assignment: If the full-text of the article isn't available online use the Journals by Title . Just type in the periodical title to see if SAC Library owns a paper copy or if another database offers the full-text. Click on Web Guides to find additional sources on the Web.
