Circulation Policy - Notebook Computers
(Moody Learning
Center 325)
NOTE: Notebook computers have been temporarily relocated to the 4th floor (MLC 435) Checkout Counter.
Therefore, MLC 325 and Circulation Desk are temporarily replaced by MLC 435 and Checkout Counter, respectively,
in this policy.
This policy applies to the notebook computers located at
the Circulation Desk in Moody Learning Center (MLC) 325.
Checkout and Use
Notebook computers (i.e.,
notebooks(s)) will be checked out to current ACCD students in
good standing who present an official ACCD (SAC, NLC, NVC, PAC, SPC) identification card
and a 2nd form of photo identification (e.g., driver license,
state identification card, or military ID). A driver license
is the preferred 2nd form of photo identification. "In good
standing" means that a student has no overdue materials at any
ACCD library and owes no library fines.
Both ID cards will be held at the Circulation Desk until
the notebook is returned.
The Notebook Computer Checkout Form must be
completed before checking out a notebook.
The student presenting the ID cards and completing the
Notebook Computer Checkout Form is the only person
authorized to use the notebook.
The notebook is for school related projects/research only.
Availability and Time Limits
Notebooks are available
on a first-come, first-served basis.
Notebooks may be checked out for 2 hours whenever the
library is open, except that notebook circulation closes 45 minutes before the library closes.
Notebooks are for use only in MLC 325. The notebook may not
be removed from MLC 325.
Notebooks must be returned to the Circulation Desk 15
minutes before the library closes, even if the 2-hour checkout
period is not expired.
Notebooks may not be renewed after 2 hours. They must be
returned so the battery may be recharged. If available,
another notebook may be checked out after completing a new
Notebook Computer Checkout Form.
Liability and Fines
The student presenting the ID
cards and completing the Notebook Computer Checkout
Form is the person responsible for the notebook. By
completing and signing the Notebook Computer Checkout
Form the student agrees to pay replacement cost for the
notebook if it is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair;
costs associated with damage to the notebook and/or its
component parts; and costs associated with loss of its
component parts.
Replacement cost of a lost, stolen, or damaged computer is
no less than $2,000, plus a $25.00 processing charge.
Before checkout to a student, the notebook will be started
and checked to ensure that it is working properly, it is not
damaged, and its component parts are not damaged or missing.
This process may take 5-10 minutes.
At check in, the notebook will be started and checked to
ensure that it is working properly, it is not damaged, and its
component parts are not damaged or missing. This process may
take 5-10 minutes and the student must remain at the
Circulation Desk during the check in process.
A price list for the notebook and its component parts is
printed on back of the Notebook Computer Checkout Form.
The fine for an overdue notebook is $10.00/hour. A portion
of an hour counts as a full hour (e.g., 10 minutes = 60
minutes).
A Hold will placed on a student's record if he/she
fails to pay an overdue fine or costs associated with loss,
theft, or damage to a notebook and/or its component parts. The
Hold will prevent a student from registering or
receiving a transcript.
Noncompliance with any notebook computer checkout policy or
procedure will result in a student being banned from checking
out a notebook.
Software and Files
The notebooks have the following
software for student use: Microsoft Windows Operating System,
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Internet
Explorer, and Acrobat Reader.
Files or software must be saved to a disk. The student must
have his/her own disk. The library does not provide disks.
Disks may be purchased for $1.10 each at the Reserve Desk in
MLC 315.
Files or software may not be saved or downloaded to a
notebook's hard drive. Files or software saved or downloaded
to a notebook's hard drive will be deleted when the notebook
is turned off.
