When this statistics class began to research the data and the criteria we were going to establish as crucial in ranking of the states, I did not realize the amount of effort and how involved we were going to become in the entire process.

Illinois was the state I was going to research.  Because this was going to be a comparative process I used the state of Texas Lottery as my base.  Almost instantly similarities and differences began to emerge.  The items that stood out about the Illinois Lottery were the use of Spanish language on their website, the implementation of “self exclusion,” and that the maximum price of an instant ticket was much less than the Texas Lottery $50 scratch off.

The class was surprised to find Texas did not have Spanish on the website even though we border Mexico and demographics of Spanish speakers is very high in Texas.

It was interesting to use statistics and other data in this process.  I will be very interested to find out the effects of the rankings.
