I Catalog Description: Applied music, private clarinet instruction.

II Prerequisites: Approval of instructor. Must be concurrently enrolled in MUEN 1121, Concert Band, or another San Antonio College ensemble. Student will also automatically be enrolled in MUSI 0001, Recital Attendance.

III Text: To be determined by the instructor, according to the student’s level and classification, which will be adjusted after the beginning of the semester.

IV Instruction: Private lessons in clarinet technique and musicianship.

V Course Content: Scales, etudes, and pieces will be assigned at all course levels, increasing in difficulty as the student reaches the next level.

VI Learning Competancy: Will be demonstrated by the preparation of repertoire to be selected by the instructor. Progress will be monitored according to the individual student’s ability and effort.

VII Course/Grade Computation:

40% -- determined by the instructor, based upon a student’s application, interest, progress, and musical ability.

50% -- determined by a final faculty jury made up of no fewer than three faculty members. This grade is based upon the student’s performance of scales, repertoire, and sightreading. An informal mid-term jury will also be conducted.

10% -- Workshop attendance—students are required to attend seven performance workshops during the semester.

Attendance Policy: Regular and punctual attendance is required. Students should consult the SAC Bulletin for policies regarding attendance and be aware that if a student is absent the equivalent of two weeks of instruction in a regular semester, the student may be dropped by the instructor. If a lesson is missed because of instructor illness or a school holiday, a make-up lesson may be scheduled at an agreeable time. Any lessons missed by the student without prior notification to the instructor will be forfeited and the student’s letter grade may be affected.

Code of Conduct: Students may be subject to disciplinary proceedings resulting in an academic penalty for academic dishonesty. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, cheating on a test, plagiarism and collusion.
