Music Appreciation

MUSI 1306.091, 1306.092

Professor: Kerri Morgan
kmorgan31@alamo.edu

Welcome to Music Appreciation Online. This course is taught entirely on the internet, including all quizzes and exams, so high-speed internet access is a requirement. The only on-campus requirement is that you attend three recitals on campus, or make arrangements with me to attend an off-campus recital. First, check the computer requirements below before registering to ensure that your equipment will enable you to complete the course. You must also have Windows Media Player and working speakers or headphones so that you can complete the exams.

Don't worry - there are no prequisites for this course! If you have never had any musical training, you are prepared to take this class. If you have had musical training, your previous study will only enrich your learning in this course.

Get Started

In order to enroll in this course, you must first register at SAC, then immediately email me at kmorgan31@alamo.edu. In your email, please tell me:

  • that you are taking this course
  • your full name and
  • your telephone number(s)

The content of this course is located in Blackboard Vista, the district's new learning platform, so please follow the instructions on the Getting Started page of this site to find out how to access the course and get textbook information. If you already know your PALS login, you can go to https://vista.accd.edu, sign in and then click on this course. The password is the same as your default PALS password (first two letters of your last name capitilized followed by the last six of your social securtiy number). For help signing in and more information on Blackboard vista, go to http://www.alamo.edu/it/services/blackboard/student/index.html.

Orientation

There will be an online orientation session on Tuesday, August 25th at 7 pm. Use this link to reach the meeting (you'll need speakers or headphones to hear me). Your ID is your PALS login, and your password is the same as your Blackboard Vista pasword. If you can't log in to the meeting during that time, it will be recorded for your use as well. You will also find the Orientation Material inside the course itself extremely helpful in getting started. Please let me know if you would prefer to meet in person.

If this is your first internet course, please take the short inventory (READI - Are you ready for an internet course?) to determine if this is the right type of class for you. Username is sac, password is student.

Exams

Important - this section requires you to take four exams and one final using high-speed internet access on a particular date at any time during that day (they are all online). We will be using Respondus Lockdown Browser for exams - instructions are available in the Orientation Material in Blackboard Vista. The exams will be available for 48 hours. However, I will only be available for technical support during the day and evening until 9:00 p.m., so I would suggest beginning the exam by 7:00 p.m. Please check the calendar as soon as you get into Blackboard Vista, as there will be no make up exams.
