Mandatory requirments for CLINICAL courses

In each clinical course, the student must present to the instructor the following proofs:

  • Hosptial policies (Department specifies dates the films will be available.)
  • CPR (American Heart Association)
  • Immunizations
    • TB skin testing is required each year.
  • Student Health insurance (See timetable information below.)

Failure to remain current will result in not being able to attend clinical and create an adverse affect on clinical grade.

[Hint: Place all these in a plastic insert in your notebook so that you will have them available to show each instructor.]

Be a responsible student and keep the cards up to date.

Orientation to Hospital Policies

A mandatory orientation to policies common to the hospitals will be available once per semester.  Policies such as Infection Control, Fire Safety, Quality Assurance, needle sticks, HIPPA, Diversity, etc. will be presented.

  • Each student is required to attend this orientation once per year
    • The first requirement is during New Nursing Student Orientation.
  • Each student will be issued a card to document attendance and this card must be presented to each clinical instructor thereafter and upon renewal in one year.

Watch the bulletin boards in the NEB for dates this is offered.  It is the student's responsibility to renew during the posted viewing times.

CPR Card

Prior to the first clinical day in the clinical course, a student must show evidence of having completed American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Providers Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.

  • This certification may be obtained through an AHA approved program or through SAC Continuing Education Department.
  • CPR certification is renewable every two years.  Each student will be asked to show documentation of current certification to each clinical instructor. 

Indemnification agreement

In additon, in order to participate in the clinical component of each course, a copy of the Indemnification agreement form must be on file in the Department of Nursing Education. It is the student's responsiblity to download a form and each clinical instructor will collect the signed agreement.

Student Health Insurance

Students must show proof of health insurance as stated in the indemnification agreement form.

  • It must be provided upon admission to the program.
    • Present your original card and a copy to be placed in your file.
  • It must also be provided when the student renews the Hospital Policies card in one year.
    • Present your original card and a copy to be placed in your file.

Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening

New applicants will have to complete this prior to entry into the program.

All applicants for N-CLEX RN will have a criminal background check, fingerprinting, and drug screen.
